Starter Brush Inspection

  1. Measure the brush length. If it is not within the service limit, replace the armature housing assembly.

Brush Length

D15Y2, D16W7 (KG model), D16W8, D17Z1 (Except Malaysia model), D17Z2, D17Z3, D17A1, D17A2 (Except Malaysia model), D17A5 (Except Indonesia model) engines:

Standard (New):

14.0 - 14.5 mm

(0.55 - 0.57 in.)

Service Limit:

9.0 mm (0.35 in.)

Except D15Y2, D16W7 (KG model), D16W8, D17Z1 (Except Malaysia model), D17Z2, D17Z3, D17A1, D17A2 (Except Malaysia model), D17A5 (Except Indonesia model) engines:

Standard (New):

9.7 - 10.3 mm (0.38 - 0.41 in.)

Service Limit:

6.0 mm (0.24 in.)

Starter Field Winding Test

  1. Check for continuity between the brushes (A). If there is no continuity, replace the armature housing (B).

D15Y2, D15Y3 (Philippine model), D16W7 (KG model), D16W8, D16W9, D17Z1, D17Z2, D17Z3, D17A1, D17A2, D17A5 engines:

Except D15Y2, D15Y3 (Philippine model), D16W7 (KG model), D16W8, D16W9, D17Z1, D17Z2, D17Z3, D17A1, D17A2, D17A5 engines:

  1. Check for continuity between each brush (A) and the armature housing (B). If there is continuity, replace the armature housing.
